TEAM HANDICAP 2007-2008 SEASON

The final of the Hastings & District Table Tennis Association Team Handicap 2008 took place at the Civil Service Club on Monday 7th July. It was between Hollington B and Tigers D. They had between them knocked out the other fifteen teams that had entered the competition back in the spring. The final consisted of nine matches best of three, up to 21 points. So the winners would be the first team to reach the score of five.

The first match was between Josh Bennett (receiving 14 points) and Laurence Dodd. Bennett beat Dodd 18-21, 21-3, 21-12 to go one up for Hollington.

Then Teresa Bennett beat Trevor Towner (receiving 14 points) in a close game 19-21, 22-20, 22-20 to be two up.

The third match went to Jack Bennett (receiving 7 points) in another close match against Roger Smith 14-21, 21-12, 21-19. This made it three up.

Next was Teresa Bennett, always on top against Laurence Dodd (receiving 11 points) 21-15, 21-17, this took Hollington to four up needing only one more win.

Josh Bennett (receiving 12 points) was against Roger Smith, the first game was very close Bennett losing 22-24 but Smith also took the second 18-21 to get Tigers a score on the board.

Match six decided the result with Jack Bennett (receiving 5 points) against Trevor Towner with an easy win 21-17, 21-13. This made it 5-1 to Hollington. Both teams decided to play the remaining three games. Teresa Bennett lost to Roger Smith (receiving 13) 13-21, 5-21. Jack Bennett (receiving 10) beat Laurence Dodd 21-11, 21-17. Josh Bennett (receiving 11) beat Trevor Towner 17-21, 21-18, 21-9.

The organiser Peter Harding, presented the trophy to the Hollington team, the Bennett family Teresa, Jack (age 11) and Josh (age 8).

 

Paul Barry (Civil Service) won the prize for the best performance during the competition.

Winners Hollington B : - Jack, Teresa and Josh Bennett.

Runners-Up Tigers D : - Laurence Dodd, Roger Smith and Trevor Towner.
