HASTINGS & DISTRICT TABLE TENNIS ASSOCIATION

 THE PATTERSON TROPHY 2006

The Patterson Trophy was held on Saturday 17^th June 2006 at Hollington Youth and Community Centre. The format was similar to previous years with two person junior teams on an inter-club basis. Seven teams entered, which was the same as last year but down on previous years. Hollington fielded four teams, with three school based junior league teams from Filsham Valley.  The junior league players enjoyed the opportunity to play against experienced juniors playing in the senior divisions.  Youngest competitor was 6 year old Josh Bennett playing for Filsham "C" who played in his first competitive table tennis.

 The teams competed in mixed playing ability groups and then played a "crossover" game for a final finishing position. The competition went largely to form with the final being contested between Hollington "A" (Stacey Furnival and Adam Douch) and Hollington "B" (Lisa Standen and Sam Collins, last year’s winners).  Jamie Martin put in a good performance in the group matches taking Stacey Furnival to a deciding leg but Hollington “A” and Hollington “B” both proceeded to the final without losing a game.

 Potentially the final looked like being a close match but wins in the opening singles put Hollington “A” in charge.  Lisa and Sam won a tight doubles to close the gap but Adam just edged out Sam in the next singles in five close legs of entertaining play to win the title for Hollington “A” by a 3-1 scoreline. 

 The third and fourth place play-off saw Hollington "C" (Alison Beckingham and Jamie Martin) play Hollington "D" (Gemma Davies and Chelsea Furnival).  Hollington “C” started as favourites but again there were some potentially close games.  The draw probably favoured the “C” team and they duly took third place with a relatively comfortable 3-0 scoreline.

 The finishing positions were as follows:

3.                      Hollington "C" (Jamie Martin and Alison Beckingham)

4.                      Hollington "D" (Chelsea Furnival and Gemma Davies)

5.                      Filsham “A” (Jack Bennett and Joe Southcroft)

6.                      Filsham "C" (Becky Potter and Josh Bennett)

7.                      Filsham "B" (Benjamin Riley and Tommy Bennett)
